A Lover, Inverted
This interactive art installation reverse engineers a poem by Amy Lowell to create a participatory, imagined world:
“If I could catch the green lantern of the firefly
I could see to write you a letter” (“A Lover,” by Amy Lowell)
This project invites participants to type a letter to someone on a mid-twentieth-century green Remington typewriter. In this creative exchange, everything old is new again. When participants type, the green, origami fireflies, hanging from a mobile above the Remington, will shine their (LED) lanterns. Participants then reflect on the letter they typed in a 90-second survey, which is investigated to explore how new media art impacts participating audiences and affects their engagements with media technologies.
